Higher education system in Germany consists of around 400 institutions, divided into public “tuition free” institutions that host over 2.4 million students across Germany and a smaller number of private institutions that enroll less than 5% of the total student body. In the past decade, Germany has been politically struggling to ban tuition fees throughout the whole country; yet as a decentralized federal country it was difficult to bring all 16 of the federations to agree. In October 2014, consensus was reached and Germany is now offering access to free higher education to all students, regardless of their origin. Studying in Germany not only comes for free, but you can also do it in English if your German language skills are not so good. English is an international and widely spoken language, taught as a second language in the majority of schools around the world.

The official currency of Germany is Euro (€). 1 € = Rs.74.47/- (Approx. as on July 2016).

Geography & Climate :

Germany is a country in west-central Europe, which stretches from the Alps, across the North European Plain to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Germany's climate is temperate and marine, with cold, cloudy, wet winters and moderate warm summers and in the south occasional warm föhn wind. The greater part of Germany lies in the cool/temperate climatic zone in which humid westerly winds predominate. In the northwest and the north, the climate is extremely oceanic and rain falls all the year round. Winters there are relatively mild and summers comparatively cool.

Germany Admission Eligibility

Each university has their own requirements for GPAs and German language & IELTS language requirements. However, generally 60% or above are considerable. Bachelors & Post graduate diploma : 10+2 with minimum 50%. German language A1/A2 level score is required & IELTS 6.0 overall not less than 5.5 in each modules. Masters : 10+2+3 or 10+2+4. Some University may ask for IELTS score of 6 or 6.5 overall.

Cost of Education & Living :

The cost of education in German public universities is between €500-1000 semester ticket fees for both Undergraduate Courses Post-Graduate Courses. The cost of living is approximately €8000–9000 per year – covering food, transport, accommodation, entertainment, course materials and other necessities etc. However, Private institutions are usually primarily dependent on tuition fees for their funding and can charge up to €20,000 per year.

Major Cities :

The major cities are Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Dortmund, Bremen etc.

Intakes :

German universities have main two intakes September & January.
